‘The Examen makes us aware of moments that at first we might easily pass by as insignificant, moments that can ultimately give us direction for our lives.’ Dennis Linn

The Examen prayer was formed by Saint Ignatius of Loyola (1491- 1556). It’s part of the Spiritual Exercises initially used by the Jesuits and many others in the centuries since. Ignatius believed that discernment was key to both the inner and outer work of followers of Christ. Everyone in that original order carried out this form of prayer twice a day, at lunchtime and the end of the day.
